Caning
A cane chair is light, airy & comfortable in summer. But cane wears out eventually. When your chair's weave loosens & snaps, it's time to call us.
Hand caning takes years to learn. Each strand tensioned just so, each pattern hole woven in the right order. We've been doing it a long time.
Types of caning
- Hand-woven cane. Traditional seven-step method. Strands woven by hand through drilled holes. Takes hours. Lasts decades.
- Pressed cane. Pre-woven sheets set into a groove with spline. Faster than hand-woven, equally authentic.
- Rush seats. Twisted paper rush or natural cattail. Early American and Shaker chairs.
- Danish cord. Woven paper cord. Mid-century Danish modern.
