Re-foaming
Foam lasts seven to twelve years. When a cushion gives out, we replace what is inside with new foam cut to the exact dimensions of your piece.
How we replace couch cushion foam.
How we choose foam
Foam is specified two ways, and they are independent. Density is how much foam is in a given volume measured in pounds per cubic foot & it essentially sets how long the cushion lasts. Firmness is how much weight it takes to compress the foam, measured as ILD, and it sets how the cushion feels. A high-density foam can be soft, and a low-density foam can be firm. We pick both to match the piece and how you use it.
- Density: Higher poundage lasts longer. We use the highest poundage foam we can source.
- Firmness: ILD matched to the seat. A reading chair sits firmer than a nap sofa, and we spec it that way.
- Wrap: Every cushion gets wrapped in terylene before upholstery. It smooths the edges & keeps the fabric from wearing against the foam.
